Nate Runk is a d*ck

Jay is so annoying

Nikki needs more screen time

Leia can do so much better than Nate or Jay (Gwen is literally right there)

Oh I hard agree on Nate. While I do think he’s cute and funny and I do like the actor, he’s a terrible boyfriend to Nikki and honestly she could do so much better. And the whole Leia thing was clearly just a plot device. Like if the writer wanted to pair her with a Runck sibling, it should’ve been Gwen. I mean the chemistry is there, their parallels to E/D (who are canonically married), and they’re just cute??? I love them.

I personally love Jay a lot. He’s like the only male character I love on that show. Sure he’s not perfect, but none of them are. I think he’s cute, really sweet, and funny. Obviously I’m not gonna get on anyone for not liking him, but I’m personally a fan 🤷‍♀️.

Nikki Velasco is my wife, alright. Literally the best T9S kid in that show. She’s smart, ambitious, funny, and takes no shit. Perfect example of a strong woman. But I just need her to dump Nate.

I agree that Leia can do better than Nate. Like the way he treats Nikki already says a lot and there’s no sign that he’d be different with Leia imo. I mean, just because they’re both hopeless romantics, doesn’t mean they’re meant to be together.

I agree that Leia deserves better than Nate (and should be with Gwen), but I also really love Jeia. Jay’s not perfect I’ll admit, but he does seem to genuinely care for Leia and want her to be happy.

I was talking to @randomwriter23 about this and honestly n-ia’s “if two people love each other they can survive anything” convo is literally th most bullshit thing I’ve ever heard in life (saying this as a hopeless romantic myself).

It’s so annoying about Nate was basically calling Nikki “practical” for being realistic. Like newsflash bro, there is a fucking chance your relationship won’t last forever. And to not consider that will leave him crushed in the end.

Leia’s response with “come on Nate, that’s just how she is” pisses me off as well. Like somehow Nikki being realistic is some little quirk she has. And it’s not like Nikki doesn’t want to have Nate in her future, but she knows there’s a chance he won’t be. And honestly the fact that she’s prioritizing her future over everything else is the most beautiful thing about Nikki Velasco to me.

4. Nate (he’s too Kelso for me (and saying a lot because I’m a huge Jay and Betsy stan). Not to mention how he treats Nikki.)

5. Ozzie (he can be funny at times but it seems like he’s the token gay character)

My current ranking of the T9S kids, with an explanation.

1. Nikki - My absolute fave newbie on T9S. She’s smart, funny, witty, gorgeous. I love her friendship with Leia and Gwen (also ship them romantically but that’s not the point). But she can def do better than Nate. He’s such a dick to her like Kelso is to Jackie. Istg if the writers dumb Nikki down in the later seasons, I’m gonna stop watching.

2. Gwen - I adore my bby girl. I love how much of a feminist she is and fights against the patriarchy. I love how despite coming off super tough, she’s actually a huge softie.

3. Jay & Leia - Jay has a great heart and genuinely loves and wants to be there for his loved ones. He’s smart and isn’t afraid of taking responsibility for his actions, unlike a certain Kelso. Leia is such an sweetheart and so funny. I can completely relate to her social awkwardness and wanting to be liked.

4. Nate - He’s cute and has some funny one liners, but I hate the way he treats Nikki. Also he’s too Kelso for me, which is saying a lot because Jay is my fave and he’s Kelso’s bio son. I like his dynamics with Jay and Gwen, and I think he and Leia have the potential to be a hydedonna friendship. But he’s not my fave.

5. Ozzie - I genuinely dislike him canonically. He treats Leia and Gwen like shit, especially Leia. Also the fact that he’s clearly there to be the token gay character. Ninety nine percent of his screen time is him ‘sassing’ everyone. Now I love sassy characters, but there has to be more substance. And aside from Step By Step and the end of Kids In America, he didn’t really do much for me.
